Introduction

2015 was to be a year that we stayed in Melbourne for the winter, due to the impending arrival of a grand-child.  Close friends know that we later decided that we needed to get out of Melbourne for a while.  A few very close friends thought that Cape York was a good option.

After some wine, and some discussion, and some analysis it was decided that an 11 day OzTours Air/Land Cape York tour (from Cairns) was the preferred option – with accommodation in tents that we erect/pack-up ourselves.  The transport is firstly a smallish plane to Horn Island, followed by a 4WD 20-seater bus back to Cairns.
.

The organised Cape York trip will be preceded by a few relaxing days in Cairns, and followed by a few relaxing weeks in and around Cairns and Port Douglas, (for us) some of that time will be with family and some of that with friends.

I hope you enjoy the read as much as we plan to enjoy the trip.

By the way our grandchild was a lovely little girl, named Riley, far too cute for an ugly Pa like your scribe. She was one of those lucky babies who was gorgeous from birth.  She has slotted in beautifully to be our third wonderful grand-child, and our first grand-daughter.

So the fearsome five paid their deposits and started to plan the rest of the trip.  Two couples are to drive to Cairns, while our fifth member was to fly.
